Things Aren't Always As They Seem
How often do you make a comment about somebody based on what you see on TV? We get to see what the producers want us to see right? I have often seen the same story reported differently across three or four different news channels. Missing information or elaborated information depending on what message they want to get across.
I think it would be fairly safe for me to say that most people would see Wayne Bennett, Broncos super coach, is shown as being quite grumpy when he is interviewed by journalists. I have made comments myself along those very lines about Wayne’s behaviour when in front of the camera. A comment made based on what I was seeing on TV.
It’s all about perception. Perception then creates our reality. Well sometimes reality doesn’t line up with the perception. I was fortunate enough to be invited to a dinner where Wayne Bennett was the guest speaker. Please let me preface what I am about to say with the fact that I am not a Broncos supporter. My mother, a long time Broncos supporter, and I, met Wayne at the pre-dinner formalities prior to the event beginning. The Wayne Bennett we met was very personable and friendly and loved to have a chat. A far cry from the Wayne being interviewed on TV.
What makes this even more impressive is that Wayne is a very introverted person. He shared with us how he has learnt over the years to overcome his introversion because he needed to, to be able to coach. Communication is imperative in his job.
Some of the lasting messages he left with me is that the failures in your life will lead to success. As long as you maintain your dream to achieve. Along with your dream is the requirement to surround yourself with the right people, know that you do not know everything and keep it simple. And don’t let anyone hold you back from achieving your goals.
What are you doing to make your dreams and goals a reality?
