New Beginnings

It’s that time of year again. New Year. Some make resolutions. Some see it as the chance for new beginnings in certain or all aspects of their life. Yet most New Year’s resolutions are not kept and not achieved.

Where do you sit with this?

In reality, we have the opportunity for new beginnings all the time. It shouldn’t take a certain date on the calendar for us to decide we need to change. Every error we make is an opportunity to learn, evolve and start anew. Every opportunity is a new beginning if we take it.

The challenge with our new beginnings is how we implement it into our lives and make it part of who we are. If you are wanting to lose weight and increase your fitness you’re going to need a game plan and you need to know where you are starting from. You need to understand your current reality and accept it. If you can’t or won’t accept your current reality and want to do the hard yards to change it, this will be difficult.

I came across a quote which exemplifies understanding our reality and changing it for the better.

‘A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.’ – David Brinkley

I’m not saying you have to listen to everything everyone says about you. If we take everything on board people say about us it can be crippling. However, we should take notice of consistent feedback. If we are receiving similar messages from multiple people or making the same mistake over and over again, there may be merit in looking at whether we need to improve aspects of ourselves.

Regardless of whether it is New Year’s Eve or any other day of the year we always have a chance to begin anew and achieve what we want. Sometimes that means taking a good, hard look at ourselves and asking those who will tell us the truth, what we need to improve to help us achieve what we want.

Are you up to the challenge?
