I Can Do It

I was having coffee with a dear friend recently and our conversation turned to business. The core of the conversation was the understanding by others of the purpose and value of another business service.

We’ve all heard the stories where one business continues to work with another business despite the fact they are not receiving a quality service. It appears the business owner wants to stay with what they know even if it’s not providing them value.

My friend also raised a valid point. People think they can do everything. I have written about this before. A colleague decided to design an ad for his business despite the fact this was not his area of expertise. Quite rightly he decided to hand the task to a marketer who did a great job for him. He recognised it wasn’t the best use of his time or money to be doing this himself. He put it in the hands of an expert.

I can understand the reasons why people do things themselves. There may be financial constraints or, unfortunately, they have been burnt by providers before who did not deliver what they promised.

However, there is an old saying. ‘You’ve got to spend money to make money’. Importantly, there must be a return on the investment.

The cold reality is, if you are doing things which are outside your area of expertise because of the reasons above, or others, there will be consequences. The same applies if you are using your employees to do things they are not proficient with. Besides the emotional stress which may be experienced there is also a waste of time and money. Yes money! It will always hit your bottom line.

The upside is, it is possible for you to make improvements to your business, using experts, without having to spend all of your hard earned cash. You would be very unlucky not to be eligible for some type of funding from either the Federal or State Governments.

What do you need an expert to do for you?
