Diamonds in Our Community

Believe it or not, there is a lot of talent in our community. People with natural born talent. Others who have been provided opportunities to learn from leaders in industry. Sometimes these talented people are known or not known at all.

These thoughts arose after attending a book launch I was fortunate to be invited to here in Mackay. The book being launched is ‘CEO Principles’ and was written by our very own Dr John and Elizabeth McIntosh. The event was positive and highlighted the work Dr John and Elizabeth have done providing people with opportunities to live positively and shine in their area of endeavour.

Dr John and Elizabeth have built their profiles within our community over many years. They own a number of businesses and are involved in our community. This builds trust.

When I started my own business, I was surprised at the number of successful business people in our community who were ‘under the radar’. They were operating successful businesses within our community and overseas. My not knowing of them may be a consequence of my working within large organisations in a particular industry for many years. More recently I have had the privilege of meeting entrepreneurs doing very special things. Some are under the radar, some are not.

Sometimes when someone is under the radar it is by choice. Other times it is not. It can take quite a period of time for a person in business to build a profile which encourages customers to work with them. How often though, do we overlook the diamonds in our community? Sometimes we do this because we are happy with the service we have. Or maybe we don’t want to take the risk. Or maybe you have taken that risk and it ended in a bad experience.

There are diamonds in our community who struggle to get their message out, to get noticed by the community. Maybe they need someone who already has the trusted profile to vouch for them.
